Prata Riverside Village Featured in the 8th Edition of Open House Lisboa
VIC Detail Image

Prata Riverside Village, a project under the responsibility of VIC Properties S.A. (“VIC Properties”), is one of the spaces that are part of the itinerary of the eighth edition of the Lisbon Open House, which will take place this weekend, under the theme “Lisbon without a centre”.

With the aim of decentralising, diversifying and expanding the architectural knowledge of the capital, on 21 and 22 September it will be possible to get to know inside the only project that architect Renzo Piano, awarded the Pritzker Prize, has signed in Portugal together with CPU architects.

Prata Riverside Village, is the perfect illustration of the theme chosen for this year’s Open House Lisbon, as this project creates a new centrality in Lisbon, building from scratch a “small town by the river” in the natural continuation of Parque das Nações, crowned by Jardim Ribeirinho Oriente and a unique connection to the Tagus. This village will be served by shops, restaurants, galleries, bike lanes and children’s playgrounds capable of serving not only the community of residents but also of attracting visitors from other Lisbon neighbourhoods by itself. With the Silver will be born a living and open community, requalifying an area of the city that for decades was abandoned. This becomes even more important when the centre of Lisbon experiences a period of great real estate and tourism pressure, leading the inhabitants of Lisbon to seek other alternatives within the city and its surroundings.

Visits to the Prata Riverside Village can be made on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 6pm. Those interested can choose between two models of visit: through the accompaniment of a volunteer or by a specialist. The latter has an appointment (Saturday at 18h00 and Sunday at 12h00, 16h00 and 18h00) and will be made by António Nizza Pablo Otero, Ivo Henriques (RPBW), Luís Gamboa (VIC) and Carlos Ruas (CPU), with a maximum capacity of 25 people. The visits accompanied by volunteers are free and open to the public, who can thus see one of the most iconic works in the Portuguese architectural panorama.

In the Prata Riverside Village it will also be possible to visit an exhibition designed by RPBW – Renzo Piano Building Workshop: RPBW Architects and the CPU, which includes initial designs, some of the technical solutions designed for this project and the architects’ vision for the integration of Silver Riverside Village in the context of the Tagus River and Parque das Nações.

This year’s Open House, an event that takes place in 40 cities around the world and with free entrance in all its dynamics, coincides with the 5th edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, the city that hosts the only project that Renzo Piano, Pritzker Prize in 1998, designed in our country. Whether from an architectural or artistic point of view, the Prata Riverside Village is a space worth visiting.
